On the great feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan officiated the All-Night Vigil on Saturday the 16th and celebrated Divine Liturgy on Sunday the 17th of April in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.
Concelebrating with His Grace were: cathedral dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Priest Živojin Jakovljević (cleric of the Serbian Church in the USA), Priest Pavel Rusakov (cleric of Our Lady "The Inexhaustible Chalice" Church in Brooklyn, NY), Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), and Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin; diocesan cleric). Praying in the altar at Liturgy were Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, and Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada.
The Synodal choir sang beautifully under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.
A large number of parishioners and faithful from other churches in the city gathered to pray in the Synodal Cathedral. Most of these communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Upon completion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas greeted everyone on the occasion of the feast, and delivered a sermon on the successive feasts – the raising of Righteous Lazarus from the dead by the Savior and the entry of the Lord into Jerusalem.
His Grace called on the faithful to have love for God and all of their neighbors, in order to spread peace within ourselves and throughout the entire world.
In keeping with Palm Sunday tradition, a collection was held for the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem in the cathedral.
The cathedral sisterhood organized a festal luncheon for the clergy and faithful.
