On Sunday, January 13, Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City was celebrated by Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad was joined by the cathedral’s senior priest, Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Edward Chervinsky (cathedral cleric), Abbot Eutychius (Dovganyuk; cleric of St. Gregory the Theologian Church in New York City), Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff and Vadim Gan, and Deacon Pavel Roudenko (cathedral clerics). Singing at Divine Liturgy was the choir under the direction of Peter Fekula.
Many parishioners came to pray in the Synodal Cathedral during the final day of the radiant feast of Christ’s Nativity, with many of the faithful attending with their children and receiving Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Upon conclusion of the service, Bishop Nicholas congratulated all with the feast of the Nativity of Christ and invoked God’s blessing on all: "God grant that the manifestation of Jesus Christ – God – be constant within our lives, and may He grant that each of us has a personal Nativity of our spiritual, church life."
His Grace reminded those present of the great and holy feasts upcoming during the following week, and called on the faithful to pray during these days.
The Nativity Epistle of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev & All Ukraine, was read.
A hearty "Pelmeni" luncheon was served for all in the cathedral hall, complete with many other traditional foods and drinks. The meal was organized by the Synodal sisterhood. The sisters also prepared Russian songs, which parishioners and guests sang with pleasure.
