This section of our website is dedicated to the memory of Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky), one of the greatest archpastors of the Russian Church Abroad and our diocese. In 1975, on the 25th anniversary of his archpastoral service, Archbishop Nikon published "My Work in the Vineyard of Christ," a collection of his sermons and articles written over the course of his work as an hierarch of the Eastern American Diocese.
On the first page of the book, His Eminence writes: "We hope that, in the future, when Holy Russia is resurrected, the history of the Russian Church Abroad as the guardian of Holy Russian Orthodox in the years of tribulations will be written." Today, when Holy Russia is being resurrected, these words of the Russian Diasporan hierarch are aimed directly at us.
The Lord have seen fit to make us sinners witnesses to the resurrection of Holy Russia. In this we are given a great responsibility.
In order to best prepare for the challenges of the future, we must better understand our roots and draw from the lessons of our forebears. Archbishop Nikon was a pillar of faith, a great man of prayer, and a magnificent orator, who continued the work of his teachers – Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), Metropolitan Anastassy (Gribanovsky), and Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko). The sermons and articles contained within this book allow the reader to glance into the glorious past of our diocese.
